Why A Penis Manologue?
I dedicated this book to my instructor at Yavapai College in Prescott, AZ who thought the story too crude to be discussed in her class. She required us to read, The Vagina Monologues, and I felt she was being sexist because Eve Ensler talks about rape and mutilation of women in her book. But, when I wanted to discuss men being raped in prison my instructor thought it too risqué and crude for her class. I can't help myself, when someone tells me, "no", I yearn to do it, just to prove that I can. So her telling me, "no", resulted in my writing this book. I originally wanted to write a screenplay and call it, The Penis Chronicles. I created a questionnaire like Eve Ensler's and handed it out to people. I discovered very quickly that no one was filling it out and returning it to me. When I handed it to a man at a gym he said to me, "if you were younger I'd kick your ass!" I asked him why. He told me it was too personal. I had no one but myself. So, I ended up with one monologue—mine—one man—a manologue. Thus, you have, A Penis Manologue. |
